Desirous of control over selecting leadership of the Afro-American Studies department, complaints about the physical conditon and relocation of "Black House", among other issues, the Black Student Union presents their demands in writing.  The language is strident, uncompromising and threatening.  This is a document that exudes the frustration and rage of the times.

In response to a "State of the Campus" address by Chancellor Byrum Carter which confronted racial tension at IU, Bloomington, Vice Chancellor for the Office of Afro-American Affairs, Herman Hudson and the Dean of Students, Thomas Schreck, issue a joint statement offering recommendations for change
